London 2012 Festival launch in the North

(21 June, 2012) The starting point for London 2012 Festival in the North of England took place in Bowness-on-Windermere this Thursday, mid-summer’s day, however, there was little sun to be seen. After what is now known to be a month’s rain in a day, the open air concert launch carried on regardless with a spectacle of music, dance and fireworks. An integrated performance within Cumbria’s ‘Lake’s Alive’ programme, a Legacy Trust project born from the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad programme.

Tonight’s performance was their 46th event since the launch of Lake’s Alive in 2009 and it’s a flagship event for the North West of England. It was also the only place to have both the Olympic flame in residence and the Festival launch at the same time – and the only #London2012Fest launch event to take place in England’s North.
