I am an Olympian,Barcelona 1992, who has been teaching and coaching sailing for twenty five years. During my Olympic Trials I was told I was mathematically eliminated, yet I won by .3 of a point. I have been inspiring my students to ‘never give up’ ever since. As a father, husband, Commodore (retired) and perpetual Olympian I have taken my role model Olympic status very seriously. So I asked my former client’s husband, Dick Ebersol (NBC Sports) “why don’t we see more Olympic Tornado Catamarans in the news? His reply, “Ratings”. I hope The Olympics in London showcase Sailing more than bottom line driven NBC.The technology to cover Sailing in the Olympics is there if utilized properly. There is no other sport where competitors upon a solid (sail boat) compete in two liquids (air/water). Get off your Island, go sailing!

    Respectfully, Charles Shipway
