On Tuesday 17th April 2001, Juan Antonio Samaranch, outgoing President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced the candidates for the Presidency race, the election of which will take place on July 16th in Moscow.

3.2 The Role of the International Olympic Academy

The International Olympic Academy has existed since the 1960s and has been the host to many international sporting and Olympic figures. It began and remains an educational institution, aiming to promote an understanding of Olympic Values. Each year, it hosts an international post-graduate seminar as an attempt to further this mission. From the mid 1980s, there has been an increasing amount of media coverage and academic publications related to the Olympic Games. This has revolutionised the amount of information and documents available worldwide. However, there are many dimensions of Olympism and the Games celebrations that are still hardly known and poorly documented around the world.
